We have entered sacred ground. We tread where we have never dared go. We crossed the line. We started Junior High.
It sounded so ominous before we started. A few weeks into it, we find 7th Grade not so daunting as we first anticipated. Yes, there is Science Fair. Yes, there are higher academic expectations. Yes, there are hormones and mood swings. There is the 7th grade standardized writing test and the solo trip to Catalina Island. There's Youth Group and LifeTeen Mass and choir. There are junior high activities at the school. And then there's the boys. Taller boys with deeper voices. Words like "hot" and "cute" replace "yuck" and "ewww..."
I suppose it is a bit daunting after all for a mother and a teacher the first time around! Fortunately, 4th grade has those well-worn ruts. But my son is a different child, and I have a feeling that he will be bouncing out of those ruts in no time, carving his own path.
